Chery Achieves Sales of 730,000 Units in 2020

Ranks First in Terms of Exports for 18 Years

Chery Holding Group (Chery) released its sales results, posting record monthly sales of 115,700 units in December and annual sales of 730,000 units in 2020, ranking first among Chinese passenger vehicle brands in terms of exports for 18 years. Tiggo 8 became the bestseller with annual sales of over 100,000 units. To date Chery has had 9.05 million customers worldwide, including 1.7 million overseas customers.

The ups and downs of the global epidemic outbreak in 2020 and major changes unseen in a century have posed acid tests to the auto industry. While fighting the epidemic, Chery has raced against time and achieved sales breakthroughs. Chery has maintained month-on-month growth for 10 months in a row since March, achieved record monthly sales of 88,000 units, 102,000 units and 116,000 units since October, and registered average year-on-year growth of 28 percent in the fourth quarter. As of December, Chery had three models with monthly sales of over 10,000 units–Tiggo 8, New Tiggo 5x and New Tiggo 7, of which Tiggo 8 recorded sales of over 20,000 units for two consecutive months.

Chery has overcome the global spread of the pandemic in overseas operations, achieved year-on-year export growth of 18.7 percent amid the economic slump, and entered a new development pattern in which the domestic economic cycle and the international economic cycle promote each other. To date Chery has established 5 R&D bases, 10 overseas plants, as well as over 1,500 overseas dealers and service networks across the world, and its overseas total production capacity has reached 200,000 units per year. In 2020, Chery was listed among the Top 20 Chinese Enterprises with the Best Global Image for five years.

Behind the strong momentum of Chery’s auto sector is the outstanding performance of its auto brands. Chery’s “star model”–Tiggo 8 soared above 20,000 units for two consecutive months and registered total sales of nearly 300,000 units over the two years since its launch. Arrizo 5 was the only Chinese sedan ranked by the J.D. Power 2020 China Initial Quality Study SM (IQS).

Thanks to the outstanding performance of the “Ant family” represented by the electric SUV-Ant and the mini electric vehicle-Little Ant, Chery New Energy achieved annual sales of 43,000 units. Chery’s innovative project-“Key Technology and Equipment of Short-Process R&D and Manufacturing of Aluminum-base Lightweight New Energy Passenger Vehicles” that the Ant series is based on won the highest award in China’s auto industry—First Prize for Science & Technology Progress in China’s Auto Industry in 2020.

Chery’s premium brand EXEED launched a high-performance global architecture–M3X Mars in 2020, completing the deployment of compact SUVs, mid-size SUVs and mid & large-size SUVs, and achieving year-on-year growth of 50 percent amid the economic slump. EXEED TXL achieved a five-star plus C-NCAP rating with an overall score of 93.6 percent, ranking first among all mid-size SUVs in evaluations since the new rules came into effect. EXEED TXL was also honored as the Best New Model of 2020 in Russia, marking its first step towards overseas markets.

Chery’s joint venture brands also achieved fruitful results in 2020: Chery Jaguar Land Rover saw its 300,000th vehicle roll off the line, achieved sales growth for 9 consecutive months and registered annual sales of 57,900 units, up 8.8 percent year on year.
